Adobe Photoshop 6.0 is the world standard image editing solution. It is widely used for web design, prepress production, fine art, and digital photography as well. Virtual Training Company's tutorial offers an incredible thirteen hours of training. Author Andrew Hathaway begins training with the assumption that users have never worked with Photoshop or any other digital image editor. He explains how the entire tool set works, basic imaging technology, masks and selections, and color correction and editing. Watch his computer screen as he instructs you, then apply what you are learning by trying it within the actual application. It's so much easier than reading a bulky manual! Try it now by clicking one of the topics below.
Well, welcome to Adobe Photoshop 6. My name is Andrew Hathaway and I will be your trainer and educator for next several movies on Adobe Photoshop 6. I wanted to explain before we started getting into the material about some of the goals, and some of the limitations that I have as a trainer using this technology and technique of training you using these videos. My goals for this project are for you to understand how the Photoshop tool sets work. We have a lot of tools and options available to us with Adobe Photoshop, but once we get into it, you will begin to get a better understanding of all the details and options for each one of these particular tools. Another thing I wanted to mention is that the tools and techniques that you learn using this particular piece of software, are applicable to many other pieces of software - as basic imaging techniques are same across these different applications and platforms. With that said, I also want to show you some basic imaging techniques such as the difference between vector objects and raster image objects, and the difference between layers, and also have masks and selections work. We will get into many different aspects of imaging - how to do some color correction and editing. And I also want to be able to transmit to you some good habits when you do imaging, such as managing layers, and saving out files, managing your files and things like that. Ultimately when you finish with these collections of movies, you should be able to choose the right tool for the job that you are attempting to achieve using Adobe Photoshop. A bit about my limitations with the movies: I am recording on my Macintosh here using a screen resolution of 800 x 600 pixels and that's resolution of course, not how I spelled it. But anyways, that is awfully small and most people's monitors will be running at much higher resolution. Obviously I have to keep my resolution small in conjunction with recording 256 colors as opposed to millions of colors. The point of this is to keep the movie file size small, in order to pack in a lot of material for this particular collection of movies. Hopefully your monitor will be running at least 1024 x 768 pixels or larger. Most professional imaging people will actually run two monitors because (of) how many palettes Adobe Photoshop has. And certainly they will be running millions of colors for true color representation. One point I want to make is that running 256 colors, of course, is a very limited palette. And you can see right here that this color palette has some dithering. Unfortunately, that is the limitations I have and it's bit of a problem talking about color aspects of an imaging program, but I will endeavor to make that as easy to work with as possible.
