Hello, and welcome to VTC's tutorial on Pro Tools 8. I'm Adam Olson and I'll be guiding you through this course. For those that are new to Pro Tools 8, what Pro Tools 8 is, is a Digital Audio workstation, otherwise known as a DAW. It allows you to edit and manipulate audio. You can adjust levels, you can run it through effects processes, you can delete randomized audio files, do all sorts of things to your audio. So, it's mostly meant for working with audio. You can import video as well, and this is one of the most common DAWs also for working with post-production, or putting sound to picture. Pro Tools runs on Mac as well as Windows. You can run this on Windows Vista or Windows XP, so for those of you who are on the Windows side of things here is Windows Vista where you can run. Most of this tutorial. will be covered on an HD system on a Macintosh side, so most of the functions and the edits will be both cross-platform. So, let's go back to our Macintosh system and take a listen to what we've got in our session. So down at the bottom you can see all of our individual audio files, and we can hear those as well. We can adjust our Levels here. You can solo Uptracks. Just our overall Level. Our Regions down here in our Edit Window can be selected and removed and deleted. They can be shuffled around. So, hopefully that gives you an idea of what Pro Tools 8 is. We'll be discussing this further, and I hope you'll join me throughout this tutorial. to take a closer look at Pro Tools 8.
