MYOB Accounting has been one of the most popular business accounting packages in Australia and New Zealand for years. It combines inventory and contact management, invoicing, account control, and tax reporting. The Plus version of the software adds payroll, time billing, and more. VTC author, Rick Martin, provides an in-depth look at the software, covering both the Plus and regular versions of MYOB Accounting 18. You will learn how to set up, customise, and maintain company files; effectively manage sales, purchases, banking, payroll, inventory, time billing, and financial planning; and tailor your correspondence paperwork to suit your business image. Finally, Rick will demonstrate end-of-period procedures to keep your business up-to-date and compliant with tax and business laws. Work files are included. Hello and welcome to the Virtual Training Company's MYOB Accounting Plus 18 Training Course. My name is Rick and I'll be your instructor. MYOB, or myob, is the acronym name for Mind Your Own Business, an extremely powerful accounting and bookkeeping application. This program enables you to keep records of income, expenses, sales, purchases, inventory - basically everything financial that you need to run a business. MYOB also helps you manage your business by letting you view things like Profit Loss and Expenditures, and lets you generate reports that can show you how your business is progressing, as well as identifying any trouble spots in your finances. This course specifically covers MYOB Accounting Plus 18, but it also applies to some other versions of MYOB, such as MYOB Accounting 18. The Plus version simply contains extra features. For example, two extra Command Centres. So, by covering MYOB Accounting Plus 18, this course will also cover the relevant topics in MYOB Accounting 18. In this course we're going to start with Overviews of MYOB Basics, and then we'll get more specific as we go. Early on we're going to go through each of the main areas of the MYOB Interface and I'll give you general information on the activities that we perform in each one. I'll also walk you through the Menus and describe the basic function of each. For this we will be using the Sample Company File that comes with the MYOB software. Please be aware, though, that the file that you receive with your software may differ from the file that I'm using. Unfortunately I can't know whether or when the people at MYOB might alter the Sample File, however, the principles of what I'm showing you will remain the same. If you didn't receive a Sample File with your MYOB software, just use one of the Sample Files I have included with this Course. If you're working from a CD these are located in the Work Files folder. If you're working from our Online Training, the Work Files can be found via a link on the right-hand side of the Product Page. Later on in the Course we'll cover more specific activities. We're going to start by setting up a brand new company Data File and then we'll cover activities such as setting up and customizing invoices and accounts, entering sales, and providing invoices, keeping records of purchases, inventory, payroll, and MYOB M-Powered services. We'll also touch on the preparation of a BAS or a Business Activity Statement for those of you in Australia, and reconciling a reporting period. OK, to finish up this lesson I'd like to make one very important point. In this course I will only be showing you how to use your MYOB software effectively. I will not be providing interpretation of the legislation of any taxation department or any other government body that regulates the operation of a business. To learn these laws and apply them to your business, I strongly recommend that you use the website and services of your local tax office and any associated resources that they may provide. There's no such thing as having too much information and you might save yourself a pile of heartache later on. If you happen to be in Australia, the Australian Taxation Office website is located at www.ato. gov. au. I also recommend that you employ the services of a registered tax agent for the submission of tax returns and any other official submissions if you're not 100 percent confident with the preparation of these. Alright, now that the formalities are out of the way, let's move on.
