Microsoft Office is the foundation of most business computer systems; understanding its power and utilizing its productivity is crucial in today’s environment. The Microsoft Certified Application Specialist (MCAS) certification is a series of performance-based exams of the Microsoft Office Suite. The exams focus on the use of these programs in a "real world" enviroment: Microsoft Office Word 2007, Excel 2007, PowerPoint 2007, Access 2007, Outlook 2007, and Windows Vista. Acquiring MCAS Certification places a candidate above the rest when searching for new positions and advancement opportunities. The intent of this video is to prepare you for the MCAS Certification Program. This is the Microsoft Certified Application Specialist. Candidates are expected to successfully complete a wide range of standard business tasks. These include: Formatting a document; Creating a PowerPoint Presentation, being able to Maintain a Database, or Troubleshoot a computer. Keep in mind that the Examination will require you to successfully complete complex business-oriented tasks. You will need to know the advanced functionality of the programs themselves. Contained within the Work Files are documents that detail each of the tasks that will be tested on the Examination. You will also see that a summarized version of the objectives of the exam are there also. You'll need to refer to both these documents as you're preparing for the Examination. What else can we do to prepare for Certification? We'll first keep in mind that you need to be familiar with the programs. Six months of experience is recommended. Also, you'll need a variety of training. It does not matter if it is formal or informal, instructor-based, or self-study. There are no prerequisites for going for the Examination itself, however, I strongly recommend that you review our Office Training Tutorials first. Again, this particular course is emphasizing how to prepare for the Examination, the Office Training will go into more detail on each of the different functionalities of the features we discuss. Use a variety of materials, look through books, go through the Internet. Remember, training needs to be diversified for any Examination. So, what does this series consist of? First, the Windows Vista Examination. Here you will find that you will need to be able to: Protect your computer; understand Remote Computing and Networking; be comfortable with Software, Disks Devices; understand Files and Folders along with the organizational components of these; be able to Customize and Personalize your Windows environment; and, master Troubleshooting. The Microsoft Word Examination will require that you Create and Customize a document. You'll also need to be a master of Formatting; be able to present your document visually; organize information; review documents; and, work with sharing and protection. Now, the good news. As we go through the rest of the Examinations you'll start finding that there are familiar themes in each of the exams. For instance, Microsoft Excel Ð again, we'll need to be able to Create and Manipulate data in this case; work with Formatting; and master the fine art of all of the Tools; understand Formulas and Functions; we'll also need to be able to present the Spreadsheets in a visually appealing manner. Finally, Sharing and Protection is again mandatory. Our next Examination, Microsoft PowerPoint: here we'll need to Create a Presentation; modify the Slides and Content; Format the data; fine-tune the visualization of it; and, work with Animation, Transitions, and Delivery. Once again, Sharing and Protection will be part of the Examination. The Microsoft Outlook Examination: here, managing Messages is imperative; work with Scheduling; work with Tasks; work with Contacts Ð these are all areas that will be tested. You'll need to be able to organize your information and again, can you work with Sharing and Protection. Finally, the Microsoft Access Examination. Here we'll want to master Database Design; Creating and Formatting of the database, tables, and information; working with data; working with Tables and Queries; and, Formatting Reports and Forms. Finally, Maintenance of the database will be imperative. You'll have seen that there are many themes that will go throughout all of the Examinations, the key here, though, is that you must master the advanced functionality.
