Codon Table & Reading Frame Explorer

Education

An interactive genetic code you can poke at: click an amino acid to see its synonymous codons, click a codon to see which single-base changes are silent, missense or nonsense, and swap to the vertebrate mitochondrial code to see exactly what differs. Paste a sequence to get six-frame translation and an ORF finder with coordinates mapped back to the forward strand. A random-sequence panel explains why long open reading frames are unlikely by chance, since a stop codon turns up about every 21 codons on average.
