By combining extraordinary production power and creative freedom with innovative cross-media support, Adobe® InDesign® CS3 takes page design and layout to new levels. Its advanced typography controls allow users unprecedented control over text and formatting. And with new advanced features that allow non-destructive effects (such as drop shadow, bevel and emboss), to be added to both text and graphic frames, users will find endless creative design possibilities. In this VTC tutorial, long time author and graphics guru, Brian White, teaches the fundamentals of InDesign before moving on to show professional hands-on document creation and manipulation. From novice to Pro, this course covers it all! Work Files are included. To begin learning today, simply click on one of the movie topics.

Hello. My name is Brian White and I will be your author for this tutorial of InDesign CS3, part of Adobe's Creative Suite. InDesign is an absolutely wonderful program. It came out in 1999 with Version 1 and, to be honest, it was a little bit shaky then. I didn't jump into it. I waited until Version 2 came out, which was a great program. InDesign CS1 was the one that followed that and that's where they created the concept of the Creative Suite - that's what the CS stands for - where they blended in with other programs in the Adobe portfolio, mainly Photoshop and Illustrator. It just continues to get better and in this iteration of the program, Creative Suite now includes the former Macromedia programs, Flash and Dreamweaver. You don't have to buy all those programs. You can buy some of them or you can just buy InDesign by itself. It is a wonderful standalone program and as it gets better, I find myself using less and less illustration and Photoshop programs. I still use Photoshop a lot, to be honest. Anyway, this is a rather large tutorial. There's over 240, nearly 250 movies in this, so it's like taking a walk of a thousand miles. How do you start? You put one foot in front of the other. Take them slowly. Listen to them. Don't overload on them. Come back and refer to them later. I assume no knowledge of InDesign or graphics programs as I'm doing this. So if you have some knowledge, always be a little bit wary of skipping over things that may seem rather pedestrian because I've got some little hints and tips in there that you may not learn otherwise in some of the basic movies because there are lots of features in InDesign and you will learn them as you go through. After you finish listen to the tutorial, keep it on hand and then you can go back and refer to it when you want to find out a feature, how it works, a little bit better. I hope you enjoy this and get great value from it.
