Hello. My name is Brian White and I'd like to welcome to you to this VTC course on InDesign CS6 Beginner. InDesign is an absolutely wonderful program. I have been using it since version 2 and although it's called InDesign CS6, it's really the eighth iteration of this software package. After InDesign CS2 they went to CS1 CS standing for Creative Suite. The Creative Suite comprises programs such as Illustrator and Photoshop and a lot more. So what we're going to cover in this course is suitable to somebody who's just new to InDesign. So if you've never used it before, this is the program for you. If you're upgrading from an earlier version of InDesign to InDesign CS6 then this program will bring you up to speed on all the features. Because a lot has changed especially from the early versions like CS2, CS3 and CS4. It's completely different these days. If you're moving over from something like Quark that you've been stuck in for years and you've realized now that InDesign really is a superior program which in my opinion it certainly is. Then you'll certainly want to go through this course and get the basics under your belt. It is a beginner course so we try to touch ground in as much detail as we can in the given time so that you can take this information and get a head start using this wonderful software package. Some of the things we talk about is how to set up your document, the interface basics, page setup, learning how to use Master Pages. Great new feature we're talking about is Alternate and Liquid Layouts. We'll deal with layers and then we'll learn how to select and manipulate the graphics and frames that are so important in InDesign. We'll work with text and we'll learn how to integrate text and graphics together. Finally dealing with styles, the most powerful feature of InDesign and then we'll take a final look of how to output to print or PDF. An awful lot of information here and I think you're going to find it all very, very valuable. So once you get this under your belt you're going to be in good stead to dig into the InDesign CS6 Advanced Course which we offer at VTC. And I am also the author of that. In it we discuss a lot of the topics we just don't have time for in this beginner course. And we also get into some of the fantastic digital publishing options that are now available. Things like creating iPad apps, e-publications, interactive PDF and animation where you can create animation in InDesign for use in presentations. And even to put a Flash File on the web. So we'll get going in this and in the next movie we'll take a look at some of the new features which Adobe has added in this version of InDesign.
