Mobile development has become increasingly important and popular. There are two platforms that own most of the current market share: Android and IOS. Microsoft has not been successful to date in the mobile market, and developers that are comfortable using Microsoft tools may feel left behind. It is possible, however, to create mobile applications for both Android and IOS using Microsoft Visual Studio and the Mono framework. This course will serve as an introduction on how to create applications for Android using Mono and C#. It will cover basic setup, UI development, options for working with data, interfacing with other Android features, like audio, camera and GPS, and publishing the application to Google Play. (SFX) Hi. Welcome to the Virtual Training Company presentation of Android Development using C# and Visual Studio 2012. My name is Keith Welch and I'll be your instructor for this course. Mobile development is becoming increasingly important as Smart Phones and tablets become more and more popular. Currently Android and Apple iOS have the most market share and Android has the current sales lead. Microsoft is far behind and it's questionable whether they can ever catch up. Clearly they're making a strong effort at this point with Windows 8 and the surface tablet but they have quite a long way to go. Android uses Java while iOS uses Objective C. If you have been a Microsoft developer and want to get into the mobile market, what do you do? Do you have to relearn everything? I was in this situation having developed using Microsoft Tools for over 15 years with a lot of time in Windows Mobile. What I found was the Mono Framework. Mono provides a cross platform development framework that allows me to develop in C Sharp or VB. I can use C# and Visual Studio which is the environment that I'm comfortable in. But there's still a lot to learn about the Android Operating System, it's features and APIs. This course provides an introduction to Mono for Android using C# and Visual Studio 2012. We're going to be looking at a lot of cool topics, so let's get started.
