This training series looks at the multiple tools within Maya 2011 and an example of how to use them. Maya is a vast program that covers a great amount of workflows from 3D modeling to full blown animation, but it's the tools that bind you and your imagination to the program. This training helps new artists who have never used Maya all the way up to the Maya pros. Also included are some workflows that take you through the steps necessary to create a fully textured model within the software. So sit back and enjoy the one program everyone that has ever played video games wanted to learn. To begin learning Maya 2012 today, simply click on the movie links.
All right, welcome to Maya. My name is Jason Welsh. I hope you enjoy this series. This is one of the best programs I've ever worked with and the Maya 2011 has definitely upped the standards for Autodesk. Before, you know, the UI interface was a little, a little boring at times because it hasn't been changed in quite a number of years. So now Maya 2011's here, a brand new UI interface, very expandable. You can add new things that shelf a lot easier. You can add new things to your Viewports a lot easier, so as far as modeling tools and rendering and everything else, the tools are pretty much the same but the UI interface really makes up for the changes along with all the bug fixes that they've put into Maya 2011. So, when I cover this I cover it as a very conceptual thing. I cover the tools, what they do, how to work them and then in a couple of the things I even give you a workflow on how to maybe make a polygon model and then go all the way up to texture and rendering it. So, there's a lot of times that I include the workflow along with the tools, so what I mean by concise nature I mean I don't waste time in making a huge giant robot just to show you what the Extrude Tool does. That's kind of a waste of a lot of time just to show you what the Extrude Tool does. And along with Dynamics, Animation and with Animation instead of making a giant character with lots of bones in it I bet you got to know what the Bone Tool was when you first made your first bone, but did you get to look at all the Properties of it? No, so I try to cover that a lot better within this series so you can reference what a tool does very quickly with this series. Also with Maya, keep in mind is it's a very expansive program. For everything in here, for this drop-down, yields a program for every one of these, so I tried to group things together in a more simplistic nature. In other words, Polygon Tools, there are useful things in the Polygon Tool Menu, of course, but also in Animation there's some and under Surfaces there are some, so I tried to group all the polygonal toolsets together even though they jump across several sects within Maya. All right, so I hope you enjoy this series and I'll see you in the lessons.
