Virtual Training Company's CompTIA Server+ Certification Tutorial is geared toward helping you to pass the certification test, but includes plenty of foundation material of use to both the beginner and the professional. Author Bill Ferguson's 9-hour course explains what a network is, what it does, and its components, as well as how to install, configure and upgrade a network. Hello, and welcome to my Server+ Certification class. I am excited about teaching you this material. And whether you are a seasoned professional or just a beginner, I think you will find this information to be very helpful. As added importance in addition to obtaining a CompTIA certification of Server+, the Server+ certification test counts towards some Microsoft tracks. So it's of double importance to get this information. And I have geared this information towards the test, but with a little extra foundational material. So if you are just getting started, you will have the foundation so that as we move through this training, we will all be on the same page. So let's get started with an overview of what we are going to cover. First we are going to talk about what a network is, and we will describe what a network does, as well as some different types of networks that we might come in contact with. Then we will discus the network components. There are many components in a network, but some are the most important components, such as processors and memory and disk subsystems and network subsystems. We will discuss the most important components of a network, and how as a network administrator we can make manage the most important components in a network. Then we will discuss how we install a network; how we install both the hardware and the software. And then once we have the hardware and software installed, we need to be able to configure it properly. So we will look at how we configure the most important components of a network. As we continue to administer a network, we will need to upgrade it from time-to-time, so we will discuss the proper ways to upgrade a network to make it run as efficiently as possible. As a network professional, we will also be responsible for protecting the company's investment in their equipment. So we will discuss proactive maintenance: how we can protect the hardware and the software in our system so that we don't lose any data or functionality, and so that we protect the company's investment. As part of protecting the company's investment, we need to control the Server environment. And we will discuss all of the different components of the Server environment, such as temperature and humidity and even noise. Then, when we have problems with a network, we need to be able to troubleshoot the network properly. So we will discuss the different tools that we can use to troubleshoot connectivity and to troubleshoot hardware and software in a network. On of the worst things an Administrator can do is lose data. If we lose data, we might just lose our jobs along with the data, because the company absolutely relies on that data in order to function. So we will discuss disaster recovery, which is being able to go through a disaster like a tornado or an earthquake or a fire, or just a disaster where somebody made a mistake - and not lose any data or any functionality: in other words, keep the system up and running. Or at least keep it up and running most of the time with very little downtime. So these are all the major components that we need to know for real life as well as for the test. And then last, I will give you some tips on taking the Server+ test and passing it. There are certain things that I do and that I believe people should do to get mentally prepared to go take and pass Certification tests. And I will go through these tips so that you will be ready to go take and pass the test. So now, let's get started with chapter one: what is a network?
