Welcome to FileMaker 7. FileMaker is the biggest change in FileMaker in many years, since FileMaker 3 infact when we first get relation databases. FileMaker is much more than the database. it is indeed a database a way in which it store and retrieve dataÕs sorted, printed , and you can use it on an individual computer using windows and Macintosh you can also use it across network or in the internet. FileMaker provides ways of publishing your data both in network and on the internet, let us how to do in both of these in this tutorial. But FileMaker also contains a variety of tools that let you display your data and create interactive solutions with buttons, with tools and with ways of walking through the data, exploring what's there and incorporating the data and their solutions into the vein which you run your business. For example there is an example that I used in this tutorial several times of invoices, and you can see here an invoices that I have created using FileMaker. It contains dress information, it contains price information FileMaker itself has done the multiplication here two times seven fifteen to eight fifteen, it automatically added up this numbers and on the invoice its displayed photo of one of the object that invoiced. One of things that you can do in FileMaker is to add graphics to invoices, and the documents you produce which is used for not just as decorations, but as a marketing tool for your invoices and receipts that you are generating. So here is something that I have created with FileMaker and will be looking at throughout this tutorial. But also in FileMaker what you'll see is there are template to create two dozen starter solutions , and the starter solutions such as this one lets get to work right away all you do is come up to file menu, and you choose new database and you choose one of the templates for the starts solutions. FileMaker will create a database for you into which you can start typing your data. You will see how to use the templates you will also see how to modify them. You can come up hereto define database and you be able to modify the tables the fields, and the relationships in the starter solutions as well in your all solutions in throughout this tutorial you will come to understand what it means to modify or create a database what tables are what fields are , and how the relationships work. but you can get started right away, just pointing and clicking at the beginning of the tutorial you will see how to enter data into your own solutions or into the starter solution I can't stress enough that FileMaker is one of the most powerful tools and one of the easiest used tools that you have used. Perhaps the biggest difficulty that people have with FileMaker is understanding just how simple it is. Don't worry about understanding databases don't worry about understanding data design. What you have to worry about is understanding what it is you wanted to do with FileMaker what you have to do is worry about understanding the business processes that you are creating, the rules not the database rules but the business rules for the logic that you want to implement and that's what your expert at FileMaker is an expert at storing, retrieving and displaying data. You are the expert in what's called domain knowledge so with that prefix let's get to work and start looking at FileMaker.
