This course was specifically designed to help demonstrate the many tools and techniques used within the 3D game and film industry in regards to character creation. The course begins with the very basics of setting ideal preference settings and creating a customized tool shelf for fast and efficient workflow. Author and 3D expert Michael Ingrassia then takes users through the very basic techniques of box modeling, UV layout and traditional texture map creation using Maya and Photoshop software. As the lessons progress, Michael begins to demonstrate much more advanced tools and techniques. Finally, he pushes Maya and Zbrush to it's breaking point generating a final character sculpted mesh to 33 million polygons before exporting the necessary maps and finalizing the low poly mesh back into Maya for exporting into a game engine. The various tools and techniques demonstrated here will certainly be beneficial to beginners as well as seasoned professionals alike. And his Zbrush texturing lessons alone make these videos worth the price. A DVD containing work files is included. To begin learning today, simply click on one of the movie links.
This is Michael Ingrassia welcoming you to the Character Development 1 video training course. In these videos I will demonstrate many of the processes used in the daily production of character development. I will show you the necessary tools and techniques used by industry professionals working in game and film studios today. I will also demonstrate the creation of the assault rifle weapon utilizing various methods of modeling, UV layout, and texturing skills that may be associated with old school methods. I'll begin by working in older versions of Maya and Photoshop on a slower processing computer at first, then I will demonstrate the hazmat soldier character using next-gen techniques and working mostly in ZBrush's many tools and techniques for generating high quality meshes and maps. I'll do the final work on a high speed computer pushing my ZBrush model up to 33 million polygons. Throughout this course my intention is to teach you the proper methods and tools I use on a daily basis. My goal is not to teach you to be a great artist, but to teach you great art technique. By learning the most effective tools and sculpting processes, with a little time and practice you can quickly become very efficient as a character modeler. Of course I welcome your questions and comments regarding this course so please feel free to email me at any time for further assistance at mayatraining@aol.com it was a pleasure creating these videos and I hope you learn a great deal from them.
