This VTC course provides an overview of the most robust and powerful open-source vector illustration program available: Inkscape. Inkscape is the defacto vector editing program for most GNU/Linux operating systems and is available for Windows and Mac based systems. In this video training course, you will learn everything you need to know about getting started with Inkscape. This course presents a project-based approach to exploring the Inkscape toolset (ranging from how to construct simple diagrams to more complex traditional advertisements) that will help you learn all about Inkscape. Let James Street be your guide as you learn to harness the power of Inkscape! Work Files are included. To begin learning Inkscape today, simply click on one of the movie links.
Hello and welcome to this Virtual Training Company's course on Inkscape. My name is James Street, and I will be your tour guide and instructor into the crazy good times to be had with Vector drawing in Inkscape. We are going to have a lot of fun exploring the capabilities of Inkscape and what Inkscape makes possible. This course will walk through many aspects of how to use Inkscape from basic operations to more advanced techniques. The overall purpose of this course is to get you up to speed using one of the most powerful Open Source Vector programs available and to that end we will provide an overview of what Inkscape is all about as well as exploring the interface and tools of Inkscape in the process of providing projects that require the use of those interface and tools available through Inkscape. Now we will be creating four different projects throughout this course. We'll be building a diagram, an icon, a logo, and a flyer. So, as we work through those different projects we will see the different tools and interface elements that we need to know about in order to use Inkscape. While the main audience of this course is someone who may not have had any prior experience with Inkscape, people with some experience may benefit from the tips and tricks that are included throughout the course. And last, but not least, we should try to have as much fun as we possibly can throughout this course. As always, I encourage you to explore this application as we move throughout the course, so if I say something that peaks your interest then please, go ahead and pause the movie, fire up Inkscape and just start messing around. Now, over the years of training people how to use programs like Photoshop, Illustrator, and Web technologies such as HTML and JavaScript, I've found that people learn the most if they apply new techniques immediately in ways that actively engage them, so I really want you to do this. I also recommend that you follow along throughout this course as I have provided you with the Exercise Files that will allow you to do that. In addition to following along with this course I also highly recommend that you practice what you learn here and practice what you learn on your own and in no time you will be a master of Inkscape. Welcome aboard, and I hope you learn as much as possible and that you have a great time doing it.
