Welcome to the Virtual Training Company's JavaScript course. I'm Geoff Armstrong and I'll be taking you through this course and teaching you the latest techniques with JavaScript. We will be looking right from a very, very basic level. So if you don't know anything about JavaScript and you have no previous coding experience, I will be able to take you through in this course right from ground zero all the way up as we progress through the eight chapters of this course into the real detail of JavaScript. I have constructed this course based on fundamentals of JavaScript so we'll be going through some of the basic fundamentals including statements and comments, variables, operators, comparisons, If Else statements, switches, loops and Try Catches. Once we've completed these, we'll be looking at object orientation within JavaScript and then we'll be moving into arrays, Boolean equations and looking at some of the other neat techniques that JavaScript comes with. For instance being able to write browser detection, being able to control cookies and then looking at some of the other key functionality within JavaScript. We'll be moving up into some of the Visual JavaScript and some of the key functionality that you've probably met on the Internet including scrolling, text effects and image effects as well as being able to load up music files and making visual effects and mouse controlled sounds. We're also going to be moving into Menu Bars and navigation where we will cover vertical and horizontal tree style, 3D, accordion style and many other types of navigation. These are going to be effective and useful for you in any application or web service that you're going to be building. We're then going to move into clocks and calendars and we're going to really drill down to some of that heavy detail of how these work and you're going to be able to learn how to manipulate them and get the best out of these controls. And many of these controls you will have probably met over your, the course of your time reviewing the Internet. We're also going to move into content management and we're going to be looking at some of the key functionality around that. We're going to look at combo boxes, tabbing systems. We're going to be looking e-mail validators, form validators, table filters and sort, sorting. And this is going to enable you to be able to really take the power of JavaScript and deliver it into any online web application, web service or even business applications that you wish to build. This course has really been put together to marry up both fundamental and practicals. So you're going to kind of come away from this course with not only a good firm understanding of the fundamentals of JavaScript but the key practical techniques that are being used today in the real world.
