Autodesk Mudbox 2013 Course

(SFX) There are a quite a few new features that will enhance your workflow inside of  Mudbox. Now, behind the scenes there's something called the gigatexel engine alright? I don't know where they get these names from but it what allows you to work with is far more pixels that you used to be able to. Now we've always been able to draw curves but now you can draw those curves on your object or actually in this screen. In other words that the curve stays put and you can rotate your model around and continue to use those curves. So those are called multi-purpose curves and they're very cool and I'll show you how to use those. Now like many applications these days you can now configure and customize the workspace. So if you don't want to see panels on the right of the screen you can move them to the left or the top or the middle. You could resize these panels as well so it's really kind of cool and you get to save those workspaces so that you can fire up Mudbox and get right to work. And many applications lets you customize the workspace because we all work differently. Some people like clutter, some people don't like clutter and that would be me. I like a very neat workspace. Now, if you work inside of Maya or 3ds Max for example, and you want some of your edges to have a hard edge, Mudbox will acknowledge and support that. So I'm going to show you how to do that as well. I'm going to take a pyramid, we're going to make one of the creases really hard, then we're going to bring that into Mudbox and then we're going to subdivide and you're going to notice that it will respect that hard edge. It's going to really make workflow when you're doing non-organic things really cool. Now in previous versions of Mudbox we were able to work with Photoshop hand in hand but now you get even more power because you can now use a 16-bit PSD file format which means less banding, more colors, mote everything. So you're going to get really nice sharp textures from now on. You can also duplicate and flip models now so you can create mirrored versions of your models. So that's really what this is all about. You want to work faster, you want to get your work done without having to do so much. You want to create and let the stuff just let you work. There's also the ability to combine bmp and normal map detail now which is really handy. And of course there are presets for adjusting your colors, kind of like in Photoshop you know. So lots of good stuff in here. So let's go ahead and get started and fire up Mudbox.
