Many of the premier visual effects studios and 3-D character animation studios use Maya as their 3d effects and animation tool. More and more Maya is being used also by the gaming companies for creating both cinematics and game graphics. In this tutorial, you will be introduced to the Maya tool set, develop an understanding of Maya structure in organization of data and learn you way around the Maya interface. The modeling, lighting, animation and dynamics tools will be introduced and reviewed. Launching the software is as simple as double clicking on the Maya icon on your desktop. Once Maya has launched, double click on the blue bar at the top to fill your screen with Maya. Maya has an extensive toolset - it is useful to try to make as much use of your screen as possible. If you have two monitors that it is terrific and if you do not have two monitors the largest monitor that you can afford is probably going to be the best tool that you will be able to use for viewing and working with Maya.
