(SFX) Welcome to VTC's course on Excel 2013. My name's Helen Bradley and in this course I'll be taking you through the basics of creating worksheets in Excel. I'm not assuming that you've ever seen any of the Microsoft Office Applications before but if you have then some of the interface will be familiar to you. I'll start by showing you around Excel. I'll show you the new Excel 2013 Start Screen the Ribbon and Backstage View. We'll also look at the Mini Toolbar and Task Pane and I'll show you how to get help if you need it. We'll then get started working with Excel Workbooks and we'll see how to open and close a workbook and how to save it. Accounts are new to Excel 2013 so we'll have a look at working with accounts. We'll then get started with a brand new worksheet and see how to add text, numbers and dates. I'll also show you how to enter these automatically when you have a series of them to enter. We'll also look at how to work with a worksheet, resizing columns and rows and moving data and worksheets around. Formulas are central to Excel and allow you to perform mathematical functions and other calculations. We'll see how to create basic formulas such as SUM formulas and how to use named ranges to make formulas just a little easier to understand. So that you can make your worksheets look neat and tidy we'll look at how to format a worksheet to make it look colorful and tidy and how to neaten up numbers. We'll also look at conditional formatting which allows us to format a cell in different ways depending on what it is that is in that cell. Now they say that a picture's worth a 1,000 words and charts certainly help you show data in a visual way. I'll show you how to create a chart and how to format it. We'll also look at Excel Sparklines which are mini in cell charts. If you need special illustrations in your worksheet, we'll look at adding art such as photos and SmartArt to worksheets. We'll also look at more complex functions and how to find and use them. Excel Tables feature helps you organize list data and we'll look at creating and using tables in Excel. We'll also look at PivotTables which summarize data and help you answer questions that you may have about that data. When you're working with large worksheets being able to see the data in the worksheet is critical. And we'll look at some ways of managing large worksheets. Because many of your worksheets will be printed we'll have a look at how to set a print job so that everything prints neatly. We'll also look at some spreadsheet design concepts so that you can make sure that your spreadsheet designs work well and so you can check worksheets for accuracy. We'll also have a look at working with Macros and we'll record and playback a simple Macro. We'll have a look at SkyDrive and the Excel Web App. Now I've made some of the files that I'll be using in this video series available to you so that you can work with them without having to type lots of data. These files should be on your course DVD and if you're a VTC Online University Member, they'll be available for you to download. I think it's time now for me to stop talking about what we're going to do and let's get started with Excel 2013.
