Microsoft OneNote 2013 is used to store information in a central location where it can easily be shared, backed up, and searched. In this VTC course, author Brian Culp compares OneNote to a digital version of a spiral-bound notebook as he shows you how to quickly add text, pictures, video, and even handwritten notes. He also explains how OneNote integrates with other Office 2013 applications, especially Word, Excel, and Outlook. Additionally, Brian covers how to leverage powerful features such as the ability to link notes automatically, customize the interface, and quickly track down unread notes. (SFX) Hi there and welcome to this Virtual Training Company course Microsoft's OneNote 2013. OneNote is part of the Office 2013 suite of applications and it is a digital notebook application. It replaces paper based notes and includes with it most all of the advantages that you can do with digital replacement of paper in terms of saving things, every note that you take is right there on your computer. You can cut, copy and paste easily and dozens and dozens of other advantages which we will explore in this course. As we start out here I'll launch the application so I'm going to hit the Start button on my computer. I'm running Windows 8, you might be running a different operating system but I would imagine that you know how to launch an application. I'm going to type One and by the time I get time typing One there is OneNote, I'll hit Enter and OneNote will launch. So we're ready to go over what's coming up in this course and in fact I've got some notes on what's coming up in the course. So as I mentioned my name is Brian I'll be your tour guide as we look at the features and functionality of this toolset and at the end of the course I will leave you my email address, contact information so that you can get a hold of me if you have any questions that come up as you're learning this application. Here's what we'll be covering. In the lessons to follow we'll be creating our first notebook and configuring the properties of the notebook. We will then write some notes and then once we've taken some notes, we will manage the notes. We'll manage them into different sections, into different pages and talk about even creating separate notebooks. We'll then format our notes so that possibly you can draw attention to one note versus the other, one note being the number one here. And then we'll talk about some advanced note taking, some note taking with handwriting for example. We'll customize the application, we'll customize how it behaves and then we'll talk about collaboration, getting your information from one application to another or sharing OneNote with other folks who might be in your network. So along the way you'll learn how to do cool stuff like this. A note strikes your fancy you'll be able to highlight that note so again just like we can do with pen and paper you can grab a highlighter and highlight something on your legal pad. You can do the same thing digitally and what's nice about the digital world of course is that I can change my mind and erase it with the you know single keystroke here and highlight something else and then change my mind about that. Can't do that with pen and paper of course because once you apply ink to a page it's there. So again, those are the broad topics that we'll be covering throughout the lessons in this course. Stay tuned I think you'll learn a lot.
