Welcome to PowerPoint 2002 and if you are taking a look at these tutorials, no doubt you're in for a real treat, because PowerPoint is great presentation software that can help you provide presentations and put together content quickly and easily, and in professional and effective manner. And in this tutorial we'll take sort of a high-level overview of what Microsoft PowerPoint actually is and what you can do with it. What is PowerPoint? Well first of all, PowerPoint is of course presentation software; it's a part of the Office applications, and it's designed to work with other Office applications such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Access, Outlook and even FrontPage. The Office applications are designed to work together and complement and support each other and PowerPoint is certainly no exception to that rule. With PowerPoint you can design presentations, that means you can put together slides that you can use during a live presentation with an audience, or you can show them in a web or different on-screen formats. The overall goal is to provide slide software that's easy, that's adjustable, that you can easily create different kinds of content, insert existing content, and put together a presentation that's effective, meaningful, and doesn't take you forever. PowerPoint is also a way to organize presentation ideas and materials. Using Microsoft PowerPoint you can use a wizard to actually help you put together an order for a presentation. The wizard can suggest to you content for that presentation, then you can assemble all of your content onto the various slides, and re-order and work on it, as necessary. If you are having trouble developing a presentation that you have been assigned, PowerPoint is a great way to sort of gather your ideas together in a simple and effective presentation. PowerPoint is also a way to display visual aids during a presentation. The great news with PowerPoint 2002 is that it is more flexible with multimedia than it ever has been. You can show Clip Art, photos, movies, sound files, and just about anything else that you might want. This is a great way to display basically visual aids. Anything that you want to show to your audience during the presentation, you can import into PowerPoint and show it on the screen. You can do this easily with PowerPoint templates and the help features that are available. PowerPoint is also a way to highlight information during your presentation. The PowerPoint slides enable you to quickly and easily put together bullet points, numbered lists, and other types of contents. As you are speaking, it's a great way to show that information to your audience in an organized bullet or numbered format, so that they can easily gather what you are talking about, understand it, and easily take notes from it. PowerPoint is also an effective way to provide handouts and printed notes. Once you create a PowerPoint presentation, you can actually print the notes and provide those handouts to your audience. So it's more than just on-screen software; you can take what is on the screen, put it on paper, and use it in a variety of ways. As you can see, PowerPoint is essentially presentation software, but it goes way beyond the basics of actually assembling slides for a presentation, and gives you the flexibility and the creativity that you need to create whatever kind of presentation that you want.
