Microsoft Visio 2007 makes it easy for IT and business professionals to visualize, explore, and communicate complex ideas. Go from complicated text and tables that are hard to understand to Visio diagrams that communicate information at a glance. Instead of static pictures, create data-connected Visio diagrams that display information and ideas. Whether creating network diagrams, flowcharts, calendars, or organizational charts, Visio can make a professional drafter out of practically anyone. VTC Author and Trainer Timothy Warner provides the user with easy-to-follow instructions for learning this powerful application. Hello and welcome to this VTC tutorial series on Microsoft Visio 2007. My name is Tim Warner and I'm grateful to be your instructor for this tutorial. I'm not quite sure how you're coming to the Visio application. You know what they say about assumptions; I'll make none of those. However, regardless of whether you've never used Visio before, you have beginning or intermediate level expertise; I'm sure I can show you some tips and tricks that are bound to help you in your professional and personal lives. How I've structured this course is as follows: we're going to begin at the beginning, proceed until the end and stop. Just joking; that's a little Alice in Wonderland reference for you. Actually, we will start at the beginning in as much as I'm going to give you a little history of Visio and we'll talk about the different Visio product versions and so forth and eventually we'll open the application and get used to moving around in Visio. Of course, a core principle of adult education is why are we learning this, what can we do? We'll need to lay the groundwork on some of the neat things that you can do with Visio. I know some of my students in the past have been foisted Visio; maybe their job responsibilities have changed and suddenly Visio becomes a part of their working set and they just don't know how to use it. I have other students who are entering IT, for instance, and want to develop Visio skills as regards network diagramming to improve the marketability. So again, it doesn't really matter to me as an instructor how you're coming to the application. I just want to get you familiar with how to use Visio. Ultimately, the first two-thirds of the course get us to, I would say, a good, solid intermediate level of familiarity with Visio and then in the final third of the course, how I've structured it, is that we will use Visio to construct a variety of common drawing types. For instance, you may want to learn how to do an organizational chart or perhaps a process diagram, a flow chart, a network diagram, an IT rec diagram, a building floor plan, a calendar. The list goes on and on. So that's what we'll do. We'll start with theory, getting into practice and ultimately with practice and investment on your side, you'll be Visio experts, I'm quite sure, in no time. So fasten your seatbelts. I'm really looking forward to this tutorial series and teaching you all about Visio 2007 and I'm sure you have lots to learn.
