Welcome to this VTC course, focusing on the PMBOK Guide 4th Edition Updates. My name is Vanina Mangano and I will be your instructor. If you are interested in pursuing a CAPM or PMP credential offered through the Project Management Institute, or are already certified but want to update your knowledge on the latest edition of the PMBOK Guide, then this course is for you. The goal of this course is to provide a quick and efficient review of the 42 processes covered within a guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge, also referred to as the PMBOK Guide. This, therefore, serves as an update to the PMBOK Series offered through VTC, which focuses on a detailed review of the PMBOK Guide's 3rd Edition. Before I take you through an overview of this course and clarify the course objectives in the movie that follows, I'd like to briefly introduce myself. As of the creation of this course, I am certified through PMI as a PMP, PMI-RMP, and PMI-SP. I've always been excited about the progression of the Project Management profession which has come such a long way over the recent years. These credentials, offered by PMI, which include more than what I've mentioned, as well as certifications offered by other organizations, help validate your experience and knowledge of the Industry Best Practices within the field. Helping others pursue these credentials has, in a way, become part of my career and is something that I genuinely enjoy and have a passion for. Aside from teaching project management related courses, I've authored several VTC courses, as well as published project management books and courseware. Introduction aside, let's go through an overview of this course. I'd like to start out by clarifying who PMI is. PMI stands for the Project Management Institute. PMI is the most widely recognized organization within the project management profession and they've been around since 1969. They've grown at an incredible pace over the past few years. As of the creation of this course, they have over 315,000 members worldwide and over 400,000 active credential holders. You can read more about PMI, become a member, and access their resources by visiting their website at www.PMI.org. A little over 20 years ago, PMI compiled what is called A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge, or PMBOK Guide for short. The PMBOK Guide is frequently referred to as the de facto global standard for the project management profession. Think of it as a compilation of best practices that have been established and accepted in the profession which expands on the project management standards included within the guide. The PMBOK Guide is updated every four years and the certification exams are largely based on its contents. While the PMBOK Guide is the core standard, PMI also has an entire library of global standards that dig deeper in several areas. I encourage you to take a look at the standards out there, which you can do through PMI's website. If you'd like more information about PMI and the various credentials they offer, you'll find a QuickStart course through VTC that can answer many of your questions. The title of this course is QuickStart! PMI Certification Information. In this course we'll cover the project management processes that make up the PMBOK Guide with the idea of going through just a snapshot review and focusing on the purpose of the 42 processes. Every process consists of Inputs, Tools and Techniques, and Outputs with the Outputs being the result that the process worked to produce. We'll review these items per process but, again, in an efficient, overview type fashion. In the next movie we'll look at the objectives of the course so that you can better determine whether it meets your needs and expectations. And that closes out this Introduction and Overview. I hope you enjoy this course and gain an understanding of the PMBOK Guide contents and the changes made from the 3rd Edition to the 4th Edition.
