The Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) Guide is a set of guidelines and best practices put together by the Project Management Institute (PMI). It is also the focus of the most widely recognized project management certification available: the Project Management Professional credential. This VTC course (third in a four-part series), provides a detailed overview of the fourth through sixth Knowledge Areas of the PMBOK Guide: Project Cost, Project Quality, and Project Human Resource. Users will gain a thorough understanding of the processes that make up these knowledge areas, in addition to a high-level insight of how they work together. Work Files are included. To begin learning PMBOK - Part 3, simply click on one of the movie links.
* This PMBOK course series is based on the third edition of the PMBOK guide. VTC has provided update notes that work in conjunction with this series, allowing users to review changes and updates that are necessary for taking the PMBOK 4th edition exam. These notes are found in "Updated Notes" section. Upon completing the VTC PMBOK Part 1-4 series, students should then move on to complete the following course: PMBOK Guide Update (4th Edition), which provides a review of the 42 project management processes now presented in the PMBOK® Guide, 4th edition.
Welcome to VTC PMBOK Part 3. My name is Vanina Mongano and I will be your instructor for this course. In this movie, I will provide you with a brief introduction of myself and then take you through the course contents. In this course, we'll be covering a great deal of information and the course structure will follow a similar format as PMBOK Part 2. As a brief introduction, I'll mention that I'm a PMP certified project manager with a experience in project management, operations, and small business start ups. PMP stands for Project Management Professional and helping you become a certified PMP is one of the objectives of this course. My background is quite diverse, which is one of the reasons I enjoy being an entrepreneur. I also provide consulting and training services, particularly in PMP exam preparation. Moving on now to course contents, you will notice that the structure follows closely behind PMBOK Part 2, and this is because it is meant to be a continuation of that course, as Part 4 will be to this course. We'll be moving right along through the PMBOK Guide knowledge areas. In PMBOK Part 2, we covered the integration, scope, and time knowledge areas. In this course, we will cover cost, quality, and human resource areas. If you haven't gone through PMBOK Part 1, and or PMBOK Part 2 I highly suggest doing so which will better prepare you for this course, and therefore allow you to get more out of it. As a reminder, and for those that haven't taken the previous courses, I'll quickly mention that PMBOK stands for Project Management Body of Knowledge, which is a set of project management guidelines and best practices put together by the Project Management Institute. It is the primary focus of the certification exams and the PMBOK course series. As you may already know, there are a total of nine knowledge areas that the PMBOK Guide covers and as I pointed out a moment ago, we will cover the project cost management, project quality management, and project human resource management knowledge areas. Before delving into the processes that make up these three knowledge areas, I'll provide you with an overview of the project life cycle, the five process groups, all nine knowledge areas, and an overview of the processes. For most, this will serve as a review and a way of keeping the bigger picture at the forefront. Keep in mind that the course moves quickly, as we will be covering each individual process relating to cost, quality, and human resource. For these three knowledge areas, the course will include a knowledge area overview, an introduction to the knowledge areas processes, an assessment to help you gauge how much you already know, a detailed review of each process, including the processes inputs, tools and techniques and outputs, workbooks and practice exam questions for continuous review and practice. Since this course deals with cost, there will be a section devoted to practice questions on the various cost related formulas, and once you get comfortable with these formulas, you'll find them to be the easiest on the exam. And lastly, we'll wrap up with a course summary. Following this movie, you'll find a movie that addresses whether this course is right for you and also one guiding you on how to get the most of this course. Along with the course movies, this course comes with a set of Work Files, during covering how to get the most of this course, we'll point out what each document within your work file is, and when to utilize them. For example, the knowledge area assessments are meant to be taken multiple times while other documents are note templates that will help you create reference sheets. By the end of this course, you should have a thorough understanding of the cost, quality, and human resource knowledge areas along with their processes. You should also be at a proficient level in answering questions related to these knowledge areas including cost related questions involving calculations. And that brings this introductory movie to a close and I hope this has provided you with an insight on what to expect. As I mentioned, it's important to know that the course does move quickly and we cover the processes in detail moving with the flow of the PMBOK Guide.
