PMI: Risk Management Professional (Part 1) Course

Welcome to VTC's PMI Risk Management Professional Part 1. My name is Vanina Mangano and I will be your instructor. This course is Part 1 in a series of three courses meant to give you a thorough review and level of understanding on the topic of Project Risk, whether you are preparing for an upcoming exam, looking to understand Project Risk for the first time, or a Project Risk Professional, this course has something to offer you. Together, the three comprehensive courses on Risk Management will prepare you for the Risk Management Professional Certification Exam offered by the Project Management Institute, and will provide you with a solid foundation on how to manage risk. Before I get into further detail on the course contents, I'll take a brief moment to introduce myself. I am a Certified Project Management Professional and Risk Management Professional. Both credentials that are offered by the Project Management Institute, one of the leading global organizations in the field of Project Management. I currently specialize in Project Management Training and, as a business professional, consider myself an entrepreneur having led several small business start-ups. I am also the co-author of ÒPMP Project Manager Professional Review Guide,Ó along with Kim Heldman, released in June of 2009. Introduction aside, I'll now take a moment to cover the contents of this course. If you've gone through VTC's PMBOK Series you'll find that you already have an understanding of Project Risk. The Project Management Body of Knowledge, or PMBOK Guide, plays a big role in this course. However, this course will get into much further detail, including how to apply what you've learned. So, whether you are preparing for PMI's Risk Management Exam or not, you'll learn a great deal of information that can be applied to real world project management. As I mentioned earlier, this course is Part 1 of a three-part series. Out of the four Exam Objectives covered by the Risk Management Exam, which includes Risk Communication, Risk Analysis, Risk Response Planning, and Risk Governance, we will fully be covering Risk Communication and part of Risk Analysis. Within the objective of Risk Analysis we will cover Risk Identification. Specifically within this course, we will review an Overview of Risk Management, including a high level overview of the Project Risk Management Framework, a more detailed explanation of Risk Types, Risk Categories, and steps to Risk Management. We'll go through some key documents, which includes the Risk Management Plan and the Risk Register. We'll cover not just what these documents and plans are, but how to create them. You'll learn how to gather Project Risks; how to conduct Risk Identification and Risk Identification Analysis; how to create Risk Budget; all about Risk Communication, such as how to communicate risk effectively, and a refresher on the Communication Model; how to Document Risk, which will include Risk Reporting and Risk Archiving; and, by the end of the course, you'll be ready to go through Exam Practice Questions that are written in the format of the Certification Exam which is multiple choice. And we'll close out the course with a Review of Terms, a Course Summary, and a bonus snapshot Review of the PMBOK Guide Process Groups. As an additional note, aside from preparing you for the PMI Risk Management Professional Exam, one of the goals of this course is to help you gain a working knowledge of Risk Management. Part 1 covers essential material that will set the foundation for understanding and implementing Risk Management practices. And that concludes this movie on Risk Management Part 1: Course Contents.
