(SFX) Hello and welcome to the VTC WordPress course. My name is John Ward and I'll be your instructor. In this course we're going to be looking at using WordPress and what we can do with WordPress and eventually we'll create a WordPress site from the ground up. WordPress has some common features that everyone enjoys those are blogging eCommerce, social media and multi-media. Of course the traditional usage of WordPress is as a blog. This can be a magazine, it can be any number of informational type websites where articles are posted. On the converse you could create an eCommerce site within WordPress with various plugins, shopping carts and other methods of generating revenue with WordPress. You can also turn WordPress into a social media platform either by using WordPress plugins or integrating existing social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter. And of course WordPress has various ways of displaying multi-media content in new and interesting ways. However, there are some concerns that of which you should be aware in WordPress. WordPress is a constant target for botnets and hackers. You'll need to take appropriate measures to mitigate damage caused by botnets, user input, insecure plugins, themes and WordPress versions. I'll show you how to mitigate as much of this damage as possible in later chapters. The goals of this course is to learn WordPress fundamentals first and foremost, then we'll plan our site, implement some security measures build our site and promote our site. And hopefully after all that work we can maybe generate some profit. By the time this course concludes hopefully I will have given you the tools and the knowledge that you need to use WordPress efficiently, to create a home for your content on the Internet.
